When caring for sick and injured pets, our team always looks for the most cost-effective and least-invasive strategies to help animals feel better and improve their quality of life. In some cases, surgery is necessary. Here are some of the most common types of pet surgery we perform at Henderson Animal Hospital:
Soft Tissue Repair
Pets can sustain major wounds from car accidents, animal bites, or getting into trouble in other ways. Accidents happen to the best pet owners! Surgery is often necessary to clean, trim, and close a wound to help the healing process and help prevent infections.
Orthopedic Repair
Orthopedic surgery can help manage injuries and diseases affecting your pet’s musculoskeletal system. We can treat broken bones, hip dysplasia, and torn ligaments. These issues can make your pet very uncomfortable. We like to make sure your dog or cat or other small animal has the best quality of life!
Eye and Ear Surgery
Health conditions affecting an animal’s ears, eyes, nose, or throat often benefit from surgical intervention.
Tumor and Wart Removal
Tumors (abnormal growths) are not uncommon in pets. It is often best to remove those surgically to help avoid tumors becoming a bigger issue.
On the skin, in some cases Cryosurgery can be used to treat warts and other types of skin growths. In that case we use liquid nitrogen to freeze the area that needs to be removed.
Internal Organ Surgery/Abdominal Surgery
Internal Organ and Abdominal Surgeries are more common than most people expect. Think of a young pet that has ingested a foreign body they are unable to pass and has caused an obstruction that needs to be surgically removed. Sometimes an older pet has a potential cancerous mass that requires removal. In some cases abdominal procedures are preformed to get further diagnostics. It allows us to take a sample of tissue for example, which can be sent away for testing.
