Preventative care makes a difference

At Henderson Animal Hospital we like to make sure your pets have the best chance to live a long and healthy life. That’s why we offer a range of preventive care services to support your pet’s wellness. Here are a few of our services that fall under this category:

Pet Wellness Exams

Your pet can’t tell you what is wrong. That’s why a complete pet wellness exam is important once a year at least. We review your pet’s medical history and diet, perform a physical examination and assess your pet’s dental and vision health. We will talk about anything that concerns you regarding your pet’s health, recommend  additional testing as necessary (such as blood work), and advise you on the best next steps based on our findings.

Routine pet wellness care helps  prevent health problems. If we notice anything in the early stages, we can start appropriate treatment as soon as possible.

Preventive Medications and Treatments

If your pet is due for any preventive medications, we can also provide these during your visit. Examples of preventative medications would include things like heartworm, flea or tick medications. Examples of preventative treatments would include things like an ear cleaning to prevent infection, diet recommendations for weight loss or allergies and nutraceuticals like a joint supplement to help prevent joint damage.

Vaccinations

Pet vaccinations are critical for preventing common and often fatal diseases that can affect animals, such as rabies and parvovirus.
Some vaccine-preventable diseases, especially Rabies, can spread from animals to humans so it is good practice to not skip routine vaccines.

Identify early warning signs

We often get the question: “How often should I bring my pet in for an exam?” The answer depends on several factors, including your pet’s age, breed, size, lifestyle, and overall health status. Many pet owners find that their animals benefit from preventive vet visits at least once or twice per year.

New Symptoms?

If there are any new symptoms you would like to discuss, please bring in your pet as soon as possible. When your pet is showing signs of pain, discomfort or their normal behaviour changes, it is best to get that condition checked out very quickly. Even though it may be nothing serious, it is better to play it safe and keep your pet comfortable.
